Prepare your domain name for transfer

  • Check that your domain name has been registered for at least 60 days.
  • Start your domain name transfer at least 40 days after a renewal has been applied or you will lose the benefit of that renewal with your previous provider
  • Ask your current domain name provider to unlock your domain name for transfer.
  • Request your domain's Authorisation Code from your current provider. You will be asked to confirm the Authorisation Code to authorise your domain name transfer.
  • If an update has been made to the registrant contact first/last name, company name and/or email address then the domain may be locked for 60 days with the current provider.

Please note: The domain cannot be transferred if it has already been transferred between providers within the last 60 days.

Start the domain name transfer process

Log in to your UKreg account and click 'Domain Names' in the control panel, then click on the 'Transfer' tab. Then just follow the on-screen instructions to add your domain name and initiate the transfer.

Important: You will be asked to provide contact details when submitting the transfer. The 'Registrant' contact should be that of the owner of the domain, unless you have written consent for these details to be those of someone else.

Approve the domain name transfer

Shortly after submitting your transfer request, our international domain Registrar (OpenSRS) will send an email to the registrant contact email address which you have inputted into your Fasthosts control panel. The email instructs you to authorise the domain name transfer using the 'Authorisation code'. Simply follow the domain transfer instructions in this email to complete the move to UKreg.

The transfer must be authorised within five days of OpenSRS sending you this email. It will then take up to 7 days to complete the transfer - but it's worth it for the superb service and excellent value you'll get once your domain name is with us here at UKreg.

gTLD domain name transfers are free and you'll keep any remaining months from the current registration period. We will automatically extend the registration for a further 12 months at our current rate when you transfer to us.
