Domain name release guide

Customers and resellers of UKreg and Fasthosts register over 1,000 domains with us every day.
Occasionally, customers who registered a domain through one of our resellers are unable to contact them for some reason. If you would like to regain control of a domain, registered with UKreg or Fasthosts through a third-party, we can help.

Before following our domain release process, please ensure you have tried all means of
communication with the third-party. If you still can't contact them, follow our guide below.

We make a non-refundable £20 +VAT administration charge for this service.

Open a free UKreg account

First, you'll need your own free UKreg domain name account.
It's easy - your account will be activated and ready to use immediately.

If the domain name is registered to a company or organisation: Complete and print the form, and ensure it is signed by a company director. The same company director must also sign a letter, on company headed paper, requesting the domain name release.

If the domain name is registered to an individual: Simply complete, print and sign the form.

Send the domain name release form to us

Fax or post the completed form and cover letter to us, along with proof of ownership.

You need to provide proof that you own the domain name. This can be either a copy of the original Nominet domain name registration confirmation letter (for UK domains only), or proof of purchase (e.g. invoice) from the domain provider, received at the time of registration.

Ensure that you have a full backup of your website & email, before sending us your form.

Once we have received your completed form and cover letter, we will contact the third-party (our customer) on your behalf. If they are able to release the domain name we will transfer it into your new UKreg account. This may take up to 5 working days.

Domain name ownership disputes

The third-party may dispute your claim to the domain name. If this happens, a member of our domains team will send you a link to the relevant domain name authority's dispute policy.
Domain name disputes must be settled between you, the third-party and the domain name authority; Fasthosts (UKreg) will have no further involvement.
